When you first come to see a counsellor they will ask you about your concerns and what you would like help with. This assessment usually takes about an hour. After the assessment they will discuss the options for treatment or further follow up with you. The aim is to help clients and their families develop strategies to reduce distress and enhance coping following a cancer diagnosis, during and after treatment. This may be as little as a one-off session, giving you some resources to use at home, or it may involve further sessions to provide support in more depth.
